The Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean near Spain have long been home to some of the most sought after light missile troops, particularly slingers. The sling is a simple but deadly weapon that in the hands of a skilled user can throw a “bullet” up to 400m with accuracy and power. Sling ammunition could be as simple as stones but lead bullets (sometimes with insults written on them!) were often used to improve accuracy and penetration.

Balearic slingers were used by both Rome and Carthage in the Punic Wars and these figures can be used as slingers for a variety of ancient armies.
